So i bought this SDS100 at a online auction and got a pretty good deal on it. after i got it i noticed it's not charging i'm not seeing the battery voltage on the display if i turn it off the red light comes on and it just blinks while plugged in, but when i turn it on there is no light. i also notice if i hold the scanner in my hand and shack it alittle i feel the battery moving inside of it. anyways i really want to get it working so i don't have to keep it plugged in all the time. Is there anyone on here that has had this issue before that might know what my problem could be. The scanner works fine in ever other regard it's just the battery and charging. I'll had two pictures showing what i mean. Thanks

What condition is the battery itself in? I am wondering if it is the right battery since it should not move around inside the radio. Otherwise, there might be an issue with the battery compartment itself?

The battery compartment is hard to close u have to smoosh it down good then lock it in so i don't understand why it's like that. here is a Video of the battery i took it out and looked at it. i'm not sure if it is suppose to be like this or not. I would hate to buy another battery and it not be the problem since they are quiet expensive.

The battery is normally fit in very snugly, and shouldn't rattle. And you are using the lower "mini" speaker-shaped USB port, right?

yeah i'm using the lower port but there is def some looseness when u shack the scanner back and fourth towards u not when u shack it side to side. but it's not charging tho not at all i'v left it on for awhile now and it's not charging so i wonder if it's just the battery?

Ok good i hope thats all it is what worries me is it's something internal and thats something i don't want. I'll order a new battery and see if it will start charging then. i still wonder tho shouldn't the battery thats in it still show something on the screen instead of nothing and when it's off the red light blinks.

Have any of you tried the batteries from that website? artisan power it's called they said they manufacture there own batteries. i notice they are different than the OEM ones on uniden's website. just curious if anyone has tried them and are they any good.

Since it’s a scanner from auction, and since I don’t own one, if the original battery swelled in the scanner, could it have stretched out the battery compartment? Cause if that could happen, would imagine a new battery would still wiggle around when shaken.

No i don't think it's stretched it out the battery isn't really swollen as far as i can tell. i sent a video and picture of it showing what it looks like. since i don't have one to go by i'm just wondering if the battery being bad would cause it to not show anything on the voltage on the screen. here is the picture of the screen again. from what i'v seen online there should be bars in the top right as well . when i press the volume down it doesn't show the battery voltage either. would all this be because of a bad battery and not something else?

No I mean that might not be the original battery that came with the radio. I don’t think anyone would sell a radio with a swollen battery, as I would definitely tell the buyer there was issues with the radio.

It came from a auction site i don't think they really knew much about it as far as the previous owner but idk. i'm gonna buy that battery i listed before it's 50 bucks but the OEM ones from uniden are like 74 dollars. The scanner doesn't recognize the battery thats in it at all if i press the replay button on the scanner it says it can't do that when batteries are low or not installed. so hopefully it's just a bad battery and not something internal . Thanks

Remove the battery case cover. On the inside of the battery case cover, there should be 2 rubber pads to hold the battery in place (One at the top and one at the bottom). Check if they are missing. Either that or you have a small battery with the large battery cover.

I looked they are still there. I hope this brand battery i got is good. heck i hope replacing the battery in general fixes my problem. If it isn't the battery how much does it cost to send it to uniden and have them fix it?

Does your cover bulge or is it flat with the back of the rest of the radio. What is the mAH rating of the battery?
The cover doesn't bulge at all.. the mAH is 5400MAH 3.7V 19.98Wh .... i tried to look up how old the battery is but i can't find anything i searched the radio's serial number and figured out it was made in 2020. so unless someone already replaced the battery before it's 5 years old.
