If you are using your own radio for receiving only, they should not have an issue with that.
If your radio is set up for analog receive, and you hear buzzing, then they are likely running DMR.
If you hear static, it's possible that you are either too far away from their transmitter to receive them well, or there is an issue with your radio. If this is a used radio, then you need to consider that it's been abused and is in need of help.
However, getting accurate information off what is essentially a hobby website isn't the correct way to do this. As a deputy, you should be able to go to your chief and get the correct information
if they want you to have it.
And,
Remember, set it up for RECEIVE ONLY. If you want to transmit, there's a few FCC regulations that come into play here that will require you taking some extra steps.
