So,

I want to get into scanning for ATC, Fire/EMS, Police, etc. I am most likely getting a Radioshack Pro-137. I currently live in Davidson County, TN and need to know if this system will work with the equipment they are using and such. Any help on programming or helpful information on my scanner would be great! Thanks.

Well your county is going through rebanding process or has. The things you wanted to listen to if you live close to Nashville like police/sheriff/fire you will need a digital scanner to listen to them.

What would that cost? And sumner county Tennessee? Can I still effectively listen to ATC with said scanner?

Sumner county has not gone digital but your still better off with a digital scanner because it can do analog and digital trunk tracking.

An estimated for a digital scanner is from $370 to $500.

What does ATC stand for?

Air Traffic Control and Aircraft. Would a base unit be cheaper? I might just go analog for now and listen to Aircraft and all Sumner stuff until I learn and can afford a good digital trunking scanner.

Cool, I think I will go ahead with the purchase. It is a good deal and I should still enjoy and learn the basics. Now, I will make myself sound like an idiot, but how do i program these things?

I myself don't know but once you get one you can ask in the Radio Shack forum if your getting the Pro 137.
