Trying to help a friend program a pro 96. I enter conventional frequencies in scan list 1, press 1 to activate that list. Press scan and the display says all channels locked. Cannot receive weather channels or anything. Have tried to follow key strokes from manual to unlock but no success. Some key strokes do not work as listed in manual. This scanner is two years old and I don't think it has ever been programed. I did a reset and a initializing. Can't get any sound. Any help would be appreciated. Please don't say read the manual because I have and like I said some key strokes don't work like the manual says. Some times this old mans head gets screwed over reading these manuals and can't decifer what they are trying to say. He he.

If you hit the WX key are you getting sound from the weather stations? If you are then the scanner should be working ok. Also, when you hit "MAN" and then type in 000 and "MAN" again do you see the first spot you programmed? I'd also try enabling all banks, so make sure all numbers are showing on the scan screen. Let me know if any of that seems to work

help pro 96

I get no sound when I hit the wx channel. When you continue to hit the wx button the channels do not advance unless you hit manual. When I punch in 000 as you stated it shows the first frequency that I programed. I have checked the attenuator and it shows normal. I have tried some of the unlock procedures with no success. I have also checked the squelch. All scan list are enabled although I only have programing in the 0 list as of now. I tried programing scan list 1-2-3 also and I get no sound. When i delete the o scan shown on display I get "all channels locked" with 1-9 enabled. Thanks again. I have also discovered that the mode only shows ct: c-search, and dc: c-search. It does not show fm/digital.

Okay, now I have freqs in list 0-1-2-3-4. All channels locked out has disappeared. All list 0-9 is enabled. Still no sound. No sound from weather channels. Will not scan through the list. And I thought the pro 106 was a bit-h. O well, maybe something good will happen in a while.

Only 12 freqs plus 1 for ammo plant in Pulaski County. You also have VA STARS available in your area but you will need software for programming STARS.
Win96 is best but ARC96 is available also.

No point in having banks 5 thru 9 enabled.

No need i guess in having any bank enabled. I have all the frequencies for my area. No sound comes from the speaker. Weather channels don't make a sound either. At a loss here. Something is wrong with this thing.

Has this particular scanner ever worked? ( or was it dumped on eBay because it's broken)

Can you program a known-to-be-heard-at-your-location weather frequency manually ? Hear anything?

If not, it seems possible that the antenna connection inside the radio could be broken.
OR the speaker is broken. (Tried headphones?)

Start with the squelch knob and make sure it's not turned all the way one direction or the other. If that's in the right place and you still can't get anything, you can press FUNC and then L/OUT to have the scanner take you to the first channel stored in it's memory that is locked out (indicated in this case by the capital L next to the frequency) Hit L/OUT again to toggle lockout if it's enabled on a channel that you see it shouldn't be. Later, rinse, repeat.

If neither of those work, maybe sacrificing a chicken would help... I'm out of ideas after that.

If your not getting any sound on the weather bands then I would agree with the other guys and say that either the antenna hook up, the speaker or the squelch is shot. It can be kind of hard to diagnose. I'm not familiar with the area of VA but there is a Ham Radio Outlet in Woodbridge, VA. If that's anywhere close to you it might be worth checking out. I know the guys up my way are very helpful. I'd avoid the RadioShack repair program unless its covered under an extended warranty. I've heard too many horror stories about the "repair" program.

For $20, your local Radio Shack can send the radio into the repair center where that will look the scanner over and give you a call as to what it would cost to repair the unit. .

while you have the squelch open try figgeting with the volume control. I know my Pro-96 has an issue with the volume being "sticky" at times, not sure why or how to fix it.
