• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi Team,

I recently picked up a pair of radios to program my biz frequencies into, and was curious to see if I could get the channel to work on digital versus analog (original radios were all CP200's and an analog repeater, which we have decommed long ago and just use simplex on the older units).

For some reason, if I right-click and add an analog channel, and match all of the same channel specs as the CP200s, works fine and without issue, all able to interop. When I add a digital channel, following the same steps and same frequency even, all I get is the "bonk" or "busy" tone. Any idea where I went wrong? I'd like to start phasing out the CP200's in favor of CP200D's or XPR's as we find them used, but want to understand more about using our existing frequencies without having to add a repeater back into the mix. It's funny, I almost decided to change radio brands, and for some reason, just can't bring myself to leave the ol /\/\ :)

Thanks all for the help!

Make sure that under Channels, Zone1, and in each channel, Group List has List1. This should make the radio work like your older analog CP200's but on a digital channel. Analog channels will have this option grayed out and "N/A" shown. But digital channels will have drop down option for "None" or "List1". Use "List1".

You don't need to use the Group List... That's only if you want to monitor more than 1 talkgroup on that frequency.

In a nutshell....
- go to Contacts -> Digital -> and make sure you have a group call contact (I think there is one by default, Group 1)
- go to Channels -> Zone 1 -> Right click on the zone name -> Add -> Digital channel
- Click on your digital channel - Most stuff can stay default (color code etc). Scroll down to the RX/TX section and enter your frequency (make sure RX and TX are the same since you said you don't have a repeater). On the TX side click on Contact Name and select the digital group contact from the 1st step. Power level high. For Admit and In Call Criteria I use Color Code Free and Follow Admit Criteria.

At the most basic level, that should be all you need.

Umm, no you don't.. If the channel is RX only, then yes you definitely need it. But if the radio can TX, and the TX Contact Name is set, then nothing is needed for an RX Group List. It will receive on whatever group the TX group is. Try it!
