Since nobody in your area answered, I'll give it a try.

Have you downloaded the Uniden UASD Software from http://www.uniden.com/index/downloads.cfm?product=BCD996T ?

These new Scanners need to be programmed by computer unless you are very experienced with scanners. I've been scanning for 30 years and I can't do it without software.

Some people will recommend other software, but the UASD is free, and for starters it's enough to get you going without overloading you.

Let me know and we can get started - it would help if I know what you want to scan. :D

New 996 to program

Greetings......... I live in Lagrange. Got a 996 for Christmas.

Do you plan to use it at your home or in a car/truck too? Are there just one or two or several different ways you want to use your scanner. Just police & fire or add to those air planes and military aircraft?

Haralson County....... you're right next to the Alabama line..... would you like to include eastern Ala bordering counties along with Ala State Troopers???

I've been scanning for 30-yrs. The 996 is an awesome scanner........but simple it is not. But...... once I worked with the Uniden software, bumped my head a few times, I'm now getting the hang of it.

Like anything else, it isn't so hard once you understand the thing. But for me, being used to banks of 50 to 100 channels, and then setting up talkgroups, etc. The 996 was a big bite to chew on.

I run Uniden software.

There is a heiarchy to the thing. Seems to go like this:
CONFIGURATION EDITOR - A CONFIGURATION consists of the SYSTEM(S) you select to WRITE or load into the scanner.
SYSTEM -Either conventional or trunked, digital and / or analog, it consists of GROUP(S)
GROUP - Consists of CHANNEL(S)
CHANNEL - Channel(s) in the conventional mode are frequencies. Channels in the trunked mode are TalkGroup Identification Numbers (I.D. numbers).

I live in Lagrange and travel around Georgia in my work. If I knew what you wanted to listen to, I could create some files for you to load. I could try emailing but if I am in West Atlanta and could meet somewhere, we could hook up your unit and set it up.

What are your scanning / listening interests???

I'd be glad to assist you as my work/travel schedule permits.

Best Regards,
Julian
