Not sure if this belongs here or in Aircraft but..

I just discovered that monitoring the local VHF frequencies shown on the ARINC-1 VHF RADIO NETWORKS (ENOUTE COVERAGE ABOVE FL200) chart is a good way to get company, LDOC and current active HF frequencies for the various HF aero routes.

Charts:
http://www.arinc.com/products/voice_data_comm/air_ground_radio_svc/jepp_charts.html

On 130.8 at my location near LAX there are numerous aircraft departing or transiting to Pacific routes that request the routes active HF primary and secondary, do radio checks and check LDOC company freqs. (While posting this I am even hearing a flight attendant on 130.8 discussing a passenger having a seizure and now unrepsonsive, with ground.)

All the HF route freqs are on the ARINC charts and not too hard to locate the active ones but you may hear new LDOC company frequencies and they often list primary and secondary active freqs at various points enroute.

As I understand it, the LDOCs are slowly dying out, in favor of satellite links. I haven't heard of any new ones opening up in a very long time. But there still are a few left online. I've seen those ARINC lists, and they're very helpful. Heck their headquarters is about 1/2 hour drive from me in Annapolis. I should probably add them to the Wiki at some point

LDOCs

Well that explains why I have heard so little on the published LDOC freqs.
Oh well...

Here are some LDOC freqs to try.

Thanks for the info Brandon. I am just getting back into this after a long dark period, and I am amazed at how much activity is simply "not there" anymore. Most all of my old logs are not valid anymore.

kfcrosby,

I am just getting back into it too after years and it was a bit of a shock how much activity is gone now. My regular listening is now the Pacfic air routes, HF-GCS and ocassionally I pick up CAMSLANT here.
I too find that my old frequency logs and lists are mostly inactive now.

Yeah I've also experienced this but hope its just poor conditions. Man in the late 1990s the bands were alive with all sorts of stuff. In an apartment I would hear pirate radio stations, fishermen, bootleggers and lots of aircraft and military. I always enjoyed listening to the boats headed to Cabo and other parts of Baja.

Scanning the 5 MHz aero band only thing I am copying right now are 5505 Shannon Volmet, 5598 New York and the 5547/5574 San Francisco MWARA stations. Nice to hear Shannon Volmet so maybe the conditions are picking up.
