Hello all.

I am looking for information about modifying a Maverick ET-73 remote thermometer, which I use for barbecuing.

The range on the thermometer is poor when I take the receiver inside the house. I was wondering if there was a way to connect a 9 dBi high gain antenna to the receiver or transmitter unit to boost the connection between the two units. I believe the frequency for the thermometer is 433 mHz. A common mod (which I already tried) is to solder an external wire antenna 6.7" long to the internal antenna. This did not result in any improvement re: range or reception inside my house.

Your recommendations would be highly appreciated.

I don't know about 9, but you could probably hook up a decent gain mobile somehow. Is their antenna connected with a connector, or just hardwired in? If no connector, you'd have to get in there and probably install a little pigtail that comes off it, with a connector... Then you could connect the antenna to that.
