Hey all, I have a few Bearcat BCD series scanners that I have running my Broadcastify feeds using a roof antenna on my house, etc. They work great. I’m looking for a simple basic scanner to keep in my vehicle when I’m just driving around town. I live in a small town with one digital PD dispatch freq, one analog FD dispatch freq, one Hwy Dept freq and that’s about it. So bacially I’m looking for a high quality, simple compact way to be able to monitor like 5-10 frequencies. Any suggestions here? Thanks!

If your not dealing with any trunking systems that are using simulcast then as @a417 the BCD325P2 is a good little hand held scanner.
I am partial to the BCD436 but that might be overkill for your use.

Thanks guys, the BCD325P2 is actually what I'm using now to run my Broadcastify feeds and they work great. I could just pick up another one of those. What about a small Unication unit, maybe programmed to activate with my local FD tones? If that's even possible. The ideal situation would be to scan a few local digital frequencies and program pager tones for the local FD's so the scanner activates when when the FD is dispatched. I don't even know if that's possible.....

Beware of the BC436. in my experience they are quite deaf on analog systems. My 325P2 hears much more on side by side comparison with identical antennas.
My experience is the exact opposite of that. I seem to recall some issues with some of the early ones having sensitivity issues, but mine works incredibly well. Especially in one environment where I have one of those large garbage hospital paging systems on 157.710 nearby and it needs to pick up a lot of far distance stuff, it does a nice job with that. Much better than the 346XT ever did.

I still contend, in my personal opinion, to this day between features and performance, the x36 series from Uniden is the best model they've ever made, hands down.

Seems to be varied opinions on 436, others have told me same thing you did, I have also talked to a decent number of people who have similar experiences to mine. My unit is about 2 years old, certainly not one of the early ones.

We all know how great the Uniden quality control is... So none of this surprises me!
