You need gender changer + null modem adapter.

This thread best posted either in the Uniden forums or in the HomePatrol community forums.

BWZG184401...the model number of the GPS cable for the HP1. Direct from the Uniden store www site. Wonder if you have the wrong cable?

I had the same problem with my HP1, I found a gender changer from my local radio shack, im not sure what part number but it had a male end on one side and female on the other and in conjunction with the null modem it instantly worked.

The gender changer and nill modem adapter are in line already

Sorry, you did not mention a null modem adapter in your original post.

In that case, make sure you are giving the GPS enough time to acquire a GPS fix (can take 2-3 minutes the first time, but should be well under a minute after that). Of course, it has to have a clear view of the sky to get the GPS signals, too.

Let me add another possibiity, when I first hooked mine up, I found (after much frustrating effort) that the mini null modem I was using was in fact not a null modem despite what it said on the unit. I went to RS and bought another one and everything then started working. I verified that the first "null modem" was nothing more than a straight through connector with a VOM.

Just found out that it was not a null modem, just a plain gender changer. None to be found around here so I ordered it from Amazon. Love this Home Patrol scanner.

Thanks that is the one that I ordered and it was your review that sold me on it. It should be here in a few days. Fred, N2PPU

Well I got shook up when I first read that you had ordered one from Amazon, as that is where the culprit I had came from, see my review of it here. However, as I read down the thread I see you ordered a "real" one. :)

A little off topic, I must say that Amazon made good on this by giving me a $5 credit on a future purchase completely unsolicited by me when they became aware of the situation.

Ha, too funny Lou Maag's review kept me from buying one of the bad ones. It's a small world when buying niche computer/electronic parts.
