Since having the Home Patrol for a day I have a better understanding on how the RR Database is/should be setup. In a way I was already doing this with my Uniden Dynamic Memory Scanners. With the HP-1 it is setup to display the following. I will use Escambia County Florida as an example.
What HP-1 Displays:
-Line 1 “System”
-Line 2 “Department”
-Line 3 “Channel”

What I see on the HP-1.
-Escambia
-Escambia, County of
-Sheriff South

As you can see lines 1 is missing COUNTY after Escambia and line 3 look fine but could be more defined. Line 2, department is also displaying the county and not the actual department. It should be referring to the department I’m monitoring, Escambia County Sheriff. From reading the database admin handbook, this is due to how they have counties setup. You don’t see this problem with most trunk systems since there already broken down by Police TG, Fire TG, etc.

If the database was setup correctly then I should be seeing this.
-Escambia County
-Escambia County Sheriff
-Ch.2 South Dispatch

With all my dynamic memory scanners, I have always broken my groups up by departments. This way I can hold or lockout a department and not the entire county. Even when I download from RR, I still have to spend a lot of time editing before it is configured correctly. Again I’m just point out my observations. I have learned a lot about the database and will use this info when submitting new updates.

That's why I don't like to use the RR database, I would rather see it as:

Escambia County
Sheriff
Dispatch South Ch 2

HomePatrol Database

I have working with my HomePatrol receiver for 5 days. The database is very good, but it follows some unusual protocols, at list from my perspective. Here is why:

I live in northern Virginia. I was looking for the Fairfax County Police/Public Safety. So I entered the US database, Virginia, and went to Fairfax. I looked under county systems. It was not there. I backed out of the County segment and went to the Statewide segment under Fairfax. The listing was located there. I don't understand why a county system is located in the statewide section. Does anyone have any insight?

My guess is a System that is in more than one County is put to the Statewide level. I think a system can occur only once in the database.

The reason it didn't automatically pop up for you is because HP1 doesn't know where it is...

Fairfax County Public Safety Site Location Data Report

Somebody needs to figure out where that system is centered and its range, and submit that to the DB. Then it will show by itself next time.

If your having problems related to no data in the locations an easy fix is to turn off Location Control either in the HP-1 or though SENTINEL. This only affects the TG's.

+1 while I've only had 2 days to play with my HP-1 I must say that its one of my biggest issues so far. It undermines some of the wonderful features and ease of use functionality that they worked so hard to build in. I live in LA County but I've noticed much redundancy with the labeling/sublabeling of things. It would be nice to have the extra stuff omitted or streamlined.

A lot of editing is needed, but as time goes on new channels will be added and edting done to make a much better database for all.
