I'm traveling through Arizona and Californa, testing the Home Patrol, but don't seem to be getting any Highway Patrol channels. I have Emerg Ops, Interop, Law Dispatch, Law Tac, Law Talk, Multi-Dispatch, Multi-Tac, and Multi-Talk selected (plus several others). I would think that would pretty well cover it. Is there something else I need to do?

I don't seem to see the CHP listed under any of the specific agencies, does anyone know which service the CHP falls under?

I am not sure if you mean that you can't find the channels/frequencies in the scanner, or if you are just not receiving them.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is one of the most difficult agencies to monitor for most people. They are on low band VHF which REQUIRES that you have a GOOD outside antenna designed for that band (or multi-band).

Additionally they have gone through recent changes in some divisions. The way they previously worked (and still do in many places) is that you have to monitor one frequency for the dispatcher and another for the cars. In places that have 'switched over', you will only hear cars on the dispatch frequency if the dispatcher has the "repeat" function turned off.

I would check the frequencies in your scanner with what is presently listed in the DB here on RR. Note that the "switched over" divisions are typically on a "2" channel. For example, Sacramento is using Gold2 and Black2. Also, there is a write up of the CHP page in the Wiki. Read it if you want success.

I don't know if this applies to the OP, but I just discovered while downloading the NC Viper system, that all of the GPS coordinates were not being downloaded. While I don't have a HP, I did the downloads with the latest versions of ARC-XT Pro and FreeSCAN, and got the same results for both... only a few sites that contained GPS coordinates were downloading the coordinates (all the sites downloaded ok). I submitted a ticket on the NC Viper system concerning this.

Thanks for the suggestions. I not only don't receive either CHP or AHP, I don't see either agency coming up on the System line of the Home Patrol. I know how to access them on the RR database, and have downloaded them to my PSR-500, and receive them well on that radio; I just can't locate them (or receive them) on the Home Patrol. Perhaps they are not flagged properly in the database?

Go to your Sentinel software on you computer...
Click on database (HPDB)
Click on USA
Click on California
Click on ANY County
Click on Statewide
Click on Dept. of the Highway Patrol. (CHP)
make sure you have no avoids set. You can do the same for Arizona HP. Also make sure that after you update your software, you click on "write to HomePatrol" with your Homepatrol unit hooked up to your computer. CHP is tagged as "Law Dispatch"
