Arapahoe Sheriff has been working a situation on TG3087 for a while now. May be drawing to a close.

... or not. Still ongoing.

Side note: The DTRS quality off many of the team's handhelds isn't all that great, and the officers are spending more time repeating themselves due to "going digital" than is appropriate for a decent comm system (ahem) in a situation of this sort where timing can be critical. Mark me down as a fan of unit-to-unit VHF comms for this sort of thing.

Interesting that there coming up on site 108 and not on site 105.

You'll have to help me with that. Takes some drilling down to get those numbers. FWIW, I'm picking them up off both Buckhorn (3-013) and Bald North (3-061).

My Pro96Com program is working Lookout Mtn Site 108 and that TG 3087 keep coming up and i did'nt have that one id untill now. My radios are picking up site 105 Mt.Thordin which seems the strongest signal., so i had to take my radio to the Lookout Mtn site.

OK - got it. 3-061 is also referenced as 361, 3-022 is referenced as 322, etc. Had not appreciated the simplicity of the shorthand before. Should have been obvious.

Sorry about that, that was it used to be. then it got changed to what you mention about 3 years ago(i think) 1-, 2-,3- etc. I'm still old fashion style.(lol)

No problem. The RR database shows the "neighbors" of each site in the "old" format. I'm fairly new to the DTRS game, so didn't have the older point of reference.

Meanwhile, things are going very slowly on the incident. As one would hope and expect, things are being taken very slowly and deliberately. This sort of situation often works out for the best, but there are never any guarantees that even the best work of the team will produce a good outcome when dealing with someone with wild mood swings, especially when they occur during negotiations. Hope it works out for them this time.

Ah - this COULD all be an exercise, although quite an elaborate one. I haven't stayed glued to the radio throughout, but would swear I just heard it called that. "Negotiations" are assumed failed as of this time, and "Entry" has taken place at 1:43pm.

That was the comm that tipped me to it as well. Wish I'd heard this from the beginning.

At 1:53pm they said that "The scenario has ended". Sounds like the entire thing was a very rigorous exercise. I hope that the DTRS issues with their handhelds are brought to light in the after action report.

Yeap, just in amount of short time of listening there where asking for alot of repeats due to digital and garbled comms.

Arapahoe County is North? I must be in Canada.

Serioulsy though I've noticed an increase in exercises on the radio in recent weeks. Surprising that the school incident training in Boulder last week did not show up here.

Also a recommendation when talking sites 03-xxx 322 1322 010101 1BFD7 gets challenging. Citing Site names like Lookout, Thorodin, Gunbarrel, Squaw etc are easier to figure out on the fly especially when using a mobile device to read these threads.

Every county that isn't a horizontal has a northern part <g>. But yeah, you're even N of me here in Longmont. Was trying to avoid being too explicit about exactly where in Arap this was all going down.

Point well taken. I try to use both name and numeric notations in all of my posts here for that and other reasons. Personally, I'm still too new at DTRS to recall the site numbers readily, especially the ones I can't hear locally.

Perhaps because Boulder City & County are not on DTRS system. The authorities there recognize the shortcomings (ahem) of the Motorola DTRS system, and have elected to stay with their tried and true VHF repeater system that they have spent years and $$$ making as reliable as possible, given the issues of canyons, large buildings, etc. Also they can cross-patch to DTRS, if and when necessary.
