How Come The PRO-97 Doesn't Show LTR LCN's Like It's Supposed To?

I've read about how the PRO-97 can decode the LCN from an LTR data burst and show it on the screen. But it only works about 10 % of the time. Am I doing something wrong?

Make sure you only monitor the LTR system in a non-trunked bank. Turn off the squelch and see if that makes it better.

Still no luck.

Did you program the frequency in question into a memory channel, and set the mode to "LT", and make sure the scanner is in manual mode? If you did all these things, it should work. Sometimes a too weak signal will prevent this feature from working well.

Grab a RadioShack 800 Mhz duckie if you've not already got one.. They make trunked systems rock on!!

Yeah, I've got the mode set to LT and it's a local UHF system with a solid signal. I've even tried a few different antennas. This is nothing new anyway.

I once tried to map out a 900 MHz LTR system, and only 1-2 repeaters would show the LCN but the others wouldn't.

Just tried it and still no luck. When I program in a frequency, sometimes it says LTR: none on the 4th line (the bottom line) and sometimes it just shows the bank number. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with this beast.

I've decoded talk group ID's on my BC780XLT, so I'm pretty sure it's standard LTR.

I've noticed this on some systems regardless of signal strength. I had to just wait around until a transmission came on that channel. Sux.

I've also read that the system administrator has the ability to turn the home channel identifier on or off. Maybe not all of them are turned on?

Do you have a RR database reference to the system? You're sure this is not a passport system?

I have a firmware version 1.00 and all of my 800MHz and 400MHz regular LTR systems will display the repeater number.

From the PRO-97 manual: To determine the correct Home Repeater programming,
enter the system channels of an LTR system in any order. Be
sure to program the mode for each LTR channel to LT. Listen
to each channel one at a time in manual mode and watch for
the decoded LTR data at the bottom of the scanner’s display.
When an LTR transmission occurs, you should see the LTR
talkgroup information on the bottom line of the display, and
a number preceded by “R” in the bottom right hand corner
(i.e., R12). The “R” number is the Home Repeater number
that the current transmission is occurring on. To correctly
program this Home Repeater number into your scanner,
be sure that the channel number in the bank is equal to
the number that is displayed after the “R”. For example, if
you see R12 displayed on a particular LTR frequency, that
frequency needs to be programmed into Channel 12 of
the current bank in order to track the LTR system activity
properly.

Hello to all,

My experience has been that although some systems will show the LCN every time the repeater sends out a data burst (usually once every 10 seconds I think), most will not. However, there is good news, if you are patient. About once every 20 minutes, the data burst will continue for an extended period of time, and during that, you will finally see the LCN number. Of course, it will come up sooner if a user appears on the channel as well. :) Try that and see if that helps.

Enjoy
