If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You would most likely need to contact a dealer and purchase the upgrade.

You'll have to go thru a dealer than can order an upgraded feature string from Harris. Expect to pay around $500 for each additional band, give or take. In the end it might be cheaper to sell the radio you have and pickup another with all the bands enabled.

As other suggested:

You would need to contact a dealer.
The dealer will give you a quote on the cost of the upgrade.
The dealer will want you to pull the existing feature string file (.fss) out of your radio and send it to them.
The dealer will send you a new/updated .fss file.
You would load that new .fss file into the radio.
The radio will now have the newly purchased features.

Don't know about the XG, but I just had it done on some XL's. There are still a lot of XG's out there and I'd imagine there's some level of support still on them.

Either way, this all starts with contacting the dealer.

True. I know state and local agencies throughout the country still have them in service.

Thanks for the reply

Most XGs are still in support so should be OK, but unlikely on the XG100P; check with a shop anyway just to be sure. As I understand it Harris has gotten pretty persnickety about providing feature updates for radio no longer in support.

It will cost 500 dollars list price to enable VHF. And it will cost you 500 dollars list price to enable UHF.

This is the reason why there are some radios out there on the market going for what seems to be a very good bargain price.

They will still provide feature upgrades for an XG-100P.

I don't know who your contact is, but the last time I checked with TAC they said no, it's out of support. If you've got a fleet of them it could be different.

Maybe, but if you have a fleet of them, why not put that money toward 200Ps and make the switch to RPM2? That’s honestly a big reason I stopped using my 100P almost completely… just easier to keep all the multiband mission plans in RPM2 and leave RPM for my little fleet of VHF P7100s…

Out of repair support yes, but even in the last few weeks I've had no issues ordering feature updates for XG-100s. Mobiles and portables.

I'm everywhere Focker!
Feature upgrades are literally the easiest and fastest money makers for Harris. They are charging good money for a few bytes of data.
I’d say they are charging for all the engineering time it took to ensure that feature worked properly is said radio.

yes some hams do hacking and find fun ways to get things to work, but on the other hand, its the same people who are always screaming on the internet that they can hack and depot anything and everything

and that prompts a major change in firmware or baseline operation from the OEM (APX 29 TLS changes or Harris going from feature strings to feature files)

but anyways back to the OPs question; Yes any Harris dealer can still purchase feature upgrades for the Unity line as I've done it recently and they were happy to oblige

You sure you want to flip the bill to add bands on that ol' tank? Depending on what they give you for pricing it gets expensive very fast for such a old radio.
