I have heard that the HP can be hooked up to a portable GPS unit. My vehicle has a permanent in dash GPS, will that work the same and if so how difficult will the wiring be. I have a PSR 600 and have been thinking about getting a mobile unit and the HP has caught my eye.

The HP-1 takes a 4800b NMEA 0183 standard, which is serial not USB, most all present units like yours do not support that output.

Thanks for the quick response. I am getting back into scanning and have become addicted again. This seems to be an incredible site and I am looking forward to utilizing it. I will soon be a premium subscriber.

Again thanks for the response. My confusion. It seems that its a GPS antennae. I was thinking of a whole GPS unit. I look forward to spending more time and getting educated on RR.

Hooking up the HP to a portable can/does work. There is a posting with photos by a guy who is using an eTrex and the appropriate cables and gender benders etc, as I recall. If you can't find it let me know and I'll help you look for it.

I have and old Magellan I'm going to try in a couple of days when all the pieces are together.

The first link is a complete GPS, it simply has no display. You can plug it into a laptop, PDA, cell phone, map plotter, scanner etc that is looking for NMEA data.

Ummm, that link IS to a GPS Reciever not an antenna. It's a hockey puck style reciever. The second link is for the cable and null modem connector to hook it up to your scanner.
