Does anyone know what frequency HPD uses to talk with the LVMPD Helicopter? I was listening to an ATL this morning near 215 & 515. HPD had the metro helicopter in the air but I couldn't find what frequency they were using to communicate on.

Thanks,
Bill

Metro air units also have SNACC system radios in them and can easily talk to HPD on most any of HPD's talkgroups.

I didn't hear them on any of the HPD talkgroups. There was a query from one of the units asking if they had communications with the air unit. Then I heard a double, Control said "no" and another unit said "william ##" has contact. So it sounds like only one HPD unit was in contact with metro air and was relaying messages to the other units.

Mutual Aid

It is also possible that one of the 800 MHz mutual aid channels (I-Tac 1 thru 4) may have been in use, in the conventional mode of course. These channels the Metro air unit has access to and I believe that HPD units also. It is possible that some HPD officers don't have a clue as to mutual aid channels or talkgroups programmed into their radio as they hardly ever use them. It is useful to monitor the 800 MHz mutual aid channels including the I-Call channel.

Somewhat related to this is that the various fire departments in the valley can go simplex on the 800 MHz mutual aid channels. It does not happen often but has been used on some incidents.
