NEWS FROM THE COLORADO STATE PATROL

DATE: 1-13-06
TIME: 3:50 P.M.
LOCATION: I-70 Eastbound lane from milepost 127.
(Garfield County)

On 1-13-06 at approximately 3:50 P.M. the Colorado State Patrol responded to a 17 car crash that resulted in 7 people transported to two local hospitals. The injuries ranged from minor to one classified as serious.

I-70 eastbound lane was closed for approximately 3 1/4 hours so troopers could investigate and assist with the injured that were transported. Four individuals that sustained injuries were transported to Valley View hospital of Glenwood Springs, CO, and three were transported to Vail Valley of Vail, CO.

A silver 2001 Dodge Stratus operated by Alica Harrison, 23 of Clifton, CO. was traveling eastbound on icy snow packed conditions. The vehicle lost control causing other vehicles to collide with one-another. The incident created the entire eastbound lane to congest to the point that no other vehicles could travel. I-70 remained closed until authorities could complete the investigation and for removal of the vehicles involved.

The individual that sustained the most serious injury was identified as Adrianne Rangel, 16 of Golden, CO. Rangel was transported by ambulance to Vail Valley hospital of Vail, CO.

Alcohol, and drugs were not suspected as contributing factors, however too fast for the conditions was suspected as a contributing factor.

Harrison was cited for careless driving causing injury.
