Hey!

Can Someone Please Explain the I-Call Feature I have a 996XT and Notice this Feature.

Uniden's name for an individual call between two radios or between a radio and a console operator on a Motorola or EDACS trunked radio system.

How Does it Work for Scanner Users When Scanning a Trunk System?

how I-call works

Basically each radio (transceiver) has a unique id.

For Example, I was listening to the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office on the Ohio Marcs system (Motorola type 2 trunk) on the Zanesville site. There were 2 sheriff deputies using the I-call feature. The I-call feature allows them to talk to each other on a private channel without using a talk group ID.

The dispatch uses the talk group 52144. when they go to the "private channel" they will not be heard on the dispatch channel (52144). Instead, the 2 radio IDs are used as the "channel". the two deputies were 740125 and 740128. For us to hear them we must have the I-call feature turned on in our scanners.

So each radio has a unique id, each agency has at least 1 talk group, and each site has a unique ID and 3 or more frequencies.

If you have more questions or need me to elaborate further, i will try.
