Last night, I was listening to an agency using 866.0125 (156.7 PL) After a while they identified themselves by saying : "XJK 706 to all units" , so I knew it was PRP.

You could only hear the dispatch side and all the background noise in the room.

One thing that caught my attention was the use of sounds from the MicroSoft sounds menu.

I could hear a "piano key" sound which happens to be the same as we use with a bar code reader at work. :D

Not sure if you're asking why you're not hearing the other side but I have
some possibilities.

They might be running simplex and you can't hear the mobiles/portables due
to range.

Possibly, base is transmitting CTCSS but mobiles/portables are not, and
nobody's decoding it; unless you are...

Unlikely, but they could be running split with mobiles/portables on repeater
input 821.0125MHz, may want to check that anyway.

As per the guidelines, the repeaters are supposed to be kept off unless needed.

It eliminates the hetrodyne from having multiple repeaters online much like the mess that OPC Common can be.

Since it was just one car and a dispatcher, there was no need to have the repeater on.

It was just an anomaly that night, it didn't last for much longer than fifteen minutes.

I wasn't wondering actually why I was only hearing a one-sided convo, rather why was that the freq. was being used at all?
