i Calls on NJSP

I know I used to hear i Calls on NJSP North - in fact, most of them sounded like roadside call boxes.

But I have not heard any for quite a while

And yes I hace iCAlls set to ON

Anyone?

They almost never use them anymore and the call boxes were taken down many years ago.

In the last couple years the only use I've heard in Troop C has been REMU units or NJNG supervisory units during summer exercises critiqueing or setting up the next evolution for their troops and these instances have been few and far between. I believe the call boxes were taken down due to a combination of budget contraints but more from lack of use due to everyone having cell phones.

As the years have gone by through the early 2000's the pay phones along the pway and tpke dissapeared...shortly thereafter the call boxes did as well. My local FD did the same thing with there pull boxes on the telephone poles back in 2008. Mataining the boxes and the line system throughout town just wasnt "worth it" anymore. They also disabled the fire siren for calls except a general or "all station" call, and for the occasional emergency management purposes.

Most like the same reasons existed for removing the call boxes along the highway's and interstates.

I did read in the Star Ledger back in the time that they were removing the call boxes due to the constant vandalism and that with cell phones use had declined and the danger of pedestrians actually getting out to use them. That annoying wind they made the worst. Are there any call boxes from other agencies such as NYC that are still audible?

My brother in law works dispatch with Port Authority, he said they still have active call boxes mainly in the tunnels, on the bridges and in some of the transit stations, but the last time he actually herd a call over them...well he can't remember and he has been there about 15 years.
