Hello all, I live in Hazelwood, Mo 63042. I want to get a scanner that will pick up most of the ems, police, and fire departments. I want to be able to ascan st.louis county, Florissant, and Hazelwood Mo. 63034, 63033, 63042, I am not sure what would be a good analog scanner for this. I have been thinking about getting a pro 97 triple trunking scanner. But I just do not know if this will do the job, as far as the trunked systems in Mo go.
Would anyone have advice as to what the best analog scanner would be for the st.louis, Mo area?
Thank's in advance for ANY help, Sincerely, John W.

If I am understanding your area correctly, St. Louis Co is digital and the PRO-97 doesn't do digital.

Yes, I live in the St.louis area. I really do not have the cash for a digital scanner, unless you can get a decent one for 175 dollars or so. Anyway I am really only wanting to monitor my local police and fire dept and really anything that would be interesting to hear for recreational use. I would also like to be able to listen to traffic conditions on the highway while driving. I have used a scanner in the past with a lot of success but that was in 1998. Things have changed a lot since then. So any reccomendations as to a scanner that will do most of the job is the answers I guess I am looking for. I am really a rookie when it comes to scanners so any insight into these questions is apprecited.
Merry Christmas, John.

John, welcome to RR:) A Pro-97 will work, but you might be better off getting the newer Pro-164, or PSR-310. The 164 replaced the 97, and the 310 replaced the 164. The 164 is on sale at the Shack, and is almost identical to the 97, but it allows you to monitor rebanded 800MHz trunking systems. The 310 is a much more advanced 164 with more memory. All of your county is conventional, and any of these scanners will work great.

The only digital, is St. Louis city and the county sheriff. They would be the only reason to get a digital scanner.

Not really true, there area few departments that have Digital. St. Louis County DOES NOT use Digital as indicated above. The St. Louis City Sheriff did not a few months back and were using the old 800 Mhz system, but that may have changed.

Here is the current list of digital users as of today. (Police in the STL MO Area)

Ladue
Crestwood
Ofallon
St. Charles County
St. Louis City
St. Charles City
Bridgeton

Now if none of these appeal to you then you can get a non digital scanner, but please take into consideration that agencies are moving to digital not from. So a purchase of a cheap scanner now , may cost you more later ;)

You are correct. Misread the info in the database on the county SO.

If you read his second post, he mentioned the dollar amount of $175. Not to many digital scanners for that price. He was wanting to monitor two cities local to him. They are on 450MHz frequencies that the 97 will do nicely for. Just thought I'd keep it cheap for him:)
