Hey walleye,

Down here in the Twin Cities. I researched for about 3 minutes and came up with your answer.

Like the rest of us, you are going to need a digital scanner that decodes APCO 25. The standard analog frequency scanner that you now have will pick up something I'm sure, but not what you're looking for.

According to the RRDB for the ARMER system ( the digital system in MN) Kandiyohi County is running all of their traffic on the ARMER system now. Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) Trunking System, Various, Minnesota - Scanner Frequencies

The good news is that you aren't really doing anything wrong.

The bad news is that you will need to shell out up to $500 for a new scanner. Starting with the 296 in my sig, I've done that 5 times now and haven't stopped. :)

You don't need to spend $500, just watch the Radio Shack website, the PRO 106 and 197 are on sale all the time for around $300.

As you can tell by my sig, I pay $500 for most of mine, unless I get them used. Relax TBL..... :)

But thanks for the reminder and the info for the new OP.

I think it's good to remind people that they don't HAVE to spend $500 to get a digital scanner. I think it's a huge deterrent when people are told they need to buy a $500 scanner to listen to ARMER. I have had 4 different digital scanners and Haven't spent $500 on any of them. I got my first 396 off of ebay for $400 and my second one (also from ebay) for $300. I found a Pro-96 at a pawn shop for $200. I also got my BC250D (which doesn't work on ARMER) off of ebay for $100.

I paid $386 for my radioshack pro, So yeah, you sure don't need to spend $500.

Digital scanners

Paid 275 for my Pro 197. Caught it on sale and had a 25 dollar coupon. Yes, The digital ones will blow your mind and make you mumble. mine did. Buy the software and the programming cable and save your brain. Trust me, I have been there recently.

WOW!!! Just WOW!!!

I understand that you can buy a scanner for under $500. My point was that I hadn't.... so you all can just settle down with your "under $500" examples.

We get it.... I get it..... I just haven't done it. Can we all just scan along now please???

I fully understand what you are saying. My main point was that I hate to see people lose interest in scanning as a hobby because they are told they need a digital scanner and it's going to cost $500. I've seen that happen quite a few times here in the forums. That's why I was just saying that it's a good idea to remind people that they do have options for getting a digital scanner for far less than $500.

One must remember that while paying $500 for a BCD996XT nearly everything one needs comes with it. I only wish a USB cable instead of a serial cable was included.
