Ok so this new GRE scanner coming out looks amazing. I'm defitely buying it as soon as it comes out. The only problem is I really want a digital scanner now. I found this website that sells the Uniden BCD396T for $520. They say they want you to be satisfied with what you purchase so you get 61 days to return the scanner if you don't like it. I could get this and return it at about 60 days or before that if the GRE scanner comes out sooner. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

edit:
Ok so I guess that would be wrong then. I actually think I'm gonna take some of your advice and just get a used scanner and sell it when I'm ready to buy the new GRE scanner. But CEI probably shouldnt offer a 61 day "testing period" though. It gives people like me bad ideas. But I will not be an ******* and do that.

Sounds more like a way to be deceitful and take advantage of a company. You put them through the effort of having to inspect the package, unit and contents for damage and scratches Etc. ( taking somone away from another customer) They could then have to return the unit to their supply company and go through the trouble of replacing it.

Put yourself in Uniden's shoes..

I'm not going to say what I initially wanted to... But as to if it's a good idea.. No. It isn't.

If you want a digital scanner now, buy it. When the new GRE is released, sell the Uniden. If you keep it in excellent shape you wont lose much on it. It beats trying to scam a Company.

Buy a PRO-96

Buy a PRO-96 now. There are many used for $325 or so on this site.
When the GRE comes out you can sell the 96 for probably close to the same price.

All depends on if you have a conscience or not. Personally I woundn't do it because I've been around a business all my life and couldn't do that to another business.

In a word: NO!The more often this happens the more likely a business with a liberal return policy might increase prices to cover dishonesty or, worse, ceases the liberal return policy for a much less friendly policy.... you might never buy from that company again, but I am willing to bet there are some of us who need the prices offered by this company to keep our shacks working.

This is not a good plan. Did you really expect us to validate this ?

What will work though is to go out and buy yourself a BC250 or even a BCT-396 USED.
You will be able to resell that radio for very close to what ou paid for it.
Look on e-bay you may find one or the other there.
If you get a bc250 make sure it comes with the digital card.
You will find that NEW uniden scanners sell for around 500 to 540.00 the prices have gone up a little since the USD has dropped.
Anyway the used market is just about as firm if you pay a decent price you will be able to sell it and recover all of it if the radio you buy is in fine condition cosmetically as well as being 100% functional. If you have to have a digital scanner NOW then this is the best course of action.
Where you will loose money is in the shipping. That can be calculated as the cost of using the radio for the period of time you use it.
BTW How do you know the GRE is THE digital radio you need?
We haven't seen a single review of a production unit yet. For all we know it could be a terrible radio. You seem to be anxious to buy it sight unseen.

BTW if you do buy a bc 250 keep in mind that it is the most send=sitive uniden scanner the have made for quite some time and the current models do not have a front end nearly as good.
Also keep in mind that you may actually enjoy the 396 if you buy one used, and decide to keep it.
Good luck.

Two thoughts:

1. If you decide to "evaluate" the BCD396T, you might discover that you really like it and want to keep it.

2. Who is to say that CEI won't be carrying the GRE scanner that you want at a price that you want to pay. This would present you with a worse dilemma, because they probably wouldn't be too happy if you returned the first one just in time for the new one to come out.

No one is limited to owning only one scanner. I own several, but only one digital unit at the moment due to budget constraints.

The first people that buy a product right after its release are the one that will post their problems about the product trying to find solutions, only to be met by others with the same problems and, well, no solutions. Don'ty be a guinea pig.

The Bearcat 396 is a pretty cool scanner. I told myself I'd never own one after having a Pro-96, but I must say, the 396 is growing on me. I sold my 96 and bought one.

The 396 isn't as good a' performer as the Pro-96, but the dynamic memory is pretty cool once you get the hang of it..
