I bought an R2 off of eBay, and I am really impressed with the receiver and Icom in general, except for the fact that the R2 has what may probably be the worst owner's manual ever created.

The scanner will not hold on any frequency too long and will leave an active frequency after about 5 seconds and start scanning the banks again. This happens on well-known non-trunking conventional frequencies so I know it's not just on a trunking channel.

Until I can hook myself up to Dr. Morbius' brain-expanding Krell-based machine and get my IQ high enough to decipher the owner's manual, would someone here be able to tell me if the R2 may be stuck in a scan mode or has a feature activated that is causing it to channel hop? The receiver is otherwise in pristine condition, doesn't suffer from any other problems, and it doesn't look like it was used much prior to my purchase.

Thanks!

It's been a loooong time since I had my R2, but I believe there is probably an option to make it start scanning after a specific time period, instead of waiting for the transmission to end. I'm sure it's in the manual, just need to keep looking. Good luck!

Have a look at 'Setting the scan pause time" in the manual. Page 18 in the manual I read. It can be set anywhere between 5 and 20 seconds, or 'unlimited'.

Thanks Comint, that was it!

Is there a better version of the IC-R2 owner's manual anywhere? Something with easier to understand, step by step instructions that aren't obfuscated or that doesn't refer you from page to page without ever clearly explaining what you need in any of them?
