Hello Members

Just wanted to ask some question regarding Icom's IC-R2500 receiver.

We have a Icom dealer in Australia that sells the IC-R2500 European version, does any person know if this is the same or simialr to the Australian version. Would this receiver be a better buy than Aor's Ar8600 MKII and does in perform well on HF?

I am at crossroads as to which unit to buy, they are both equally priced here in Australia and both are capable of digital reception, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello the AOR-8600MK2 & the ICOM-R2500 ars both excellent Receivers and performance wise they both do a good job on HFwith a good Antenna however the AOR can be used portable if you get the internal battery fitted. The R-2500 that I got comes straight from Icom Australia & its a Japanese unit and you have to be carefull because if the dealer is not an Austrlia Icom dealer it will void your warranty & Icom only need to check the serial number and they will not look at it if there is a problem.I do not know the difference but I would say frequency would be the same with no gaps.

Hi Lino,

Thanks for your info, will possibly check with Icom Aust. to see if the dealer I am purchasing the radio set is known to them. I will go with the R2500 and follow your advice about installing a good HF antenna. I have had an IC-R7100 for 14 years, purchased it new and it has always been a very good receiver, works as good as it did the day a purchased it.

thanks

Hello the best thing to do is check the Icom Australia website and look for dealer locations or you can ring them up & find out because if there not an Icom dealer you will find that the price of the radio is way cheaper because they import them direct from another country & when you are spending that much money you better of paying a bit more and know that you are covered by the warranty.I do have both the AOR-8600MK2/ICOM-R2500 and I can say which ever choice you make you will not be dissapointed.

Good Luck Lino (Melbourne Australia)

Hi Lino,

Purchased the unit finally, got it from a local dealer in Perth. Spend a $100 more but it is worth it. Have ordered the UT-122 board also, hopefully will get it this week or next. I think the unit performs very well, I though the signal quality is very good overall, really seems to filter out background noise, probably would be better with the DSP unit fitted.

thanks

HI,

How much did you pay for the unit in total?

Hello,

I paid $1175 from a dealer in Perth, that's just for the R-2500, UT-122 is about $390 extra.

Thanks
