I just bought a used IC-R5 and am new to scanning. I live in Okotoks and looked up all the frequencies and loaded them into the scanner. it seems to work really well. I travel alot and wanted to scan where I go and it is becoming obvious that I should get some software to speed the loading of frequencies of where I am going. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what software I should use? I ordered a cable off Ebay.

I've tried three programs for the R5, the original Icom software (terrible), the IC-R5 software - which is okay, but not easy,a and lastly the Arc5 software form Butel,a nd that last one I find easy to use. I would get that one. Also I highly, highly reccomend a subscription to the RR database. Worth every penny.

It is so much easier to automatically download/import from the RR database than to enter it in manually, especailly if you want to save different databases/setting for different regions.

Excellent, thanks for the help. I will take your advice on both counts.
