Hello,

I've searched this forum for some R6 notes and thought I'd share what I have for my R6.

I've had the R10, R2 and R5 in the past and made a nice deal for a barely used R6 at a recent hamfest.

Here is what I have. Please reply with any updates for corrections to the edge frequencies and for other frequencies that you think would be nice to add.

R6 Limit Memories. Some of these are linked:

Programmed Banks from RadioReference:

I have the Air frequencies linked.
I wish more than one group of memory banks could be linked. And, I wish that the banks weren't limited to 100 memories. Railroads take a lot!

Thanks for that.

Had/have more fun with this great little wideband receiver (also the IC-R2 and IC-R5 which I also own) than other gear 10X the price.

Just picked up one of these on craigslist last week at a phenomenal price. Great little radio! Outstanding battery life, easy to throw in a pocket. I love the fact that the headphones can be used as an antenna! Doesn’t get more stealthy than that.

Well worth the ARC software to get everything programmed.

it’s going to be my every day carry radio.

I spent a little more and got the RT Systems software and the USB cable from them. It is working well and they respond to questions in about a day.

I used Bob Parnass' software for the R10, R5 and R2: tk5 It was nice to have something that worked well and was free :)

What I created was a BANK that I named PSKIP and put all of the frequencies I wanted to skip during a band scan in that bank with PSKIP set for the scan option where you have three choices for that frequency (OFF, SKIP, or PSKIP). That way, the frequency that has a PSKIP tag will always be skipped wherever the receiver finds it. I even used the BANK "P". The only limit is the total number of memory positions in the receiver, each bank can have 1 up to all 1300 entries.

In other words, using RT System Software, you go SETTINGS -> BANK NAMES AND LINKING - and setup your banks with names. You have banks A thru Y to use. You can skip banks and the receiver simply doesn't try to do anything with a bank without entries.

For example, I put the local airport ATIS frequency of 126.3 in the LEXAIR bank called A with PSKIP set because I definitely do not want the receiver stopping on it every time thru since the ATIS frequency never stops talking :) . That also works because the receiver skips any frequency entry that has PSKIP set whether it is doing a regular memory scan or a bank (edge) scan. I just collect all of the other "junk" and put it in the PSKIP bank. So, during a bank (edge) scan, the Lexington ATIS gets skipped.

What I should have also included in the above post ——— I was trying to explain what is on page 35 of the owners manual but the manual does not really give you an example of how to set it up and it took several tries of reading it to get it thru my skull to my brain :)

The "junk" that went into the PSKIP bank is frequencies that aren't part of some airport like Lexington and are not part of the Indianapolis ARTCC, they are either birdies or something constantly sending tone signals like the Lexington VOR which is only 1/4 mile from my house.

One other quick thought -

If you take your receiver to some other location besides your "Home" base, be sure to check your PSKIP bank to see if any of those frequencies are valid in the area you are travelling to.

For example, frequency 125.000 is in my PSKIP bank because that is the frequency that the Lexington VOR is transmitting a solid signal that is all "noise" and the transmitter is only 1/4 mile from my house, however 125.000 is a departure frequency for Chicago O'Hare Field, so if I am in Chicago, I wouldn't get a hit on that frequency during a bank (edge) scan.
