do you thing icom will ever upgrade the R6

Who knows?

Icom discontinued the R30, which probably doesn't bode well for any of us who are waiting for new receivers from them.

I'd love to see a new version of the R6 with P25 and maybe even NXDN capabilities. I love my R6, R5, and R2 receivers, but they're getting a little dated with analog-only reception.

I guess we'll have to wait and see . . .

Is really too bad because I love my R6 it's very small I can carry it anywhere it only uses two batteries which is great in an emergency I can even use my solar charge too full and it works now I did hear through the grapevine which I don't know is true or not that icom did have a fire in the factory that I might have something to do with this again I don't know and thanks for the input

Hello again, Newsbirds.

I remember hearing about a fire at a chip factory somewhere in Japan or China that had an impact on Icom's production of new radios, but I think that was several years ago.

I suspect the bigger problem these days is the global pandemic and its worldwide impacts on the development and production of communication products. Rising production sosts, availability of parts, and ever-changing consumer needs/demands have probably caused companies like Icom to seriously reassess how much money they're willing to invest in products that are becoming increasingly expensive.

Somewhere in a conference room in Osaka, Japan, Icom executives are having deep discussions about how many of us they think are willing to spend how much more money for a new receiver.

I wish they would add recording capability. I don't have an R6 but I do have an R2 and an R20. I use them for mil air listening only because that is the only analog signals that are left that are interesting to me. I currently dedicate a old GRE PSR800 to record mil air and the ISS repeater. I would buy a version of the R6 if it had date/time/frequency stamp recording capabilities. I am not holding my breath though because it seems like a limited market.

Why not buy a UNIDEN BCD325P2, it does all that and makes a much better scanner in a very small form factor.

The R30 was the upgrade to the older hand held receivers. Icom crammed allot of specs in the R30. I think its the best hand held receiver on the market. Its a shame they discontinued it early so hoping a replacement is coming. IMHO, for a sweet receiver, take the 52A, remove the PTT, on put the guts of the R30 in it. The waterfall display with the R30 guts would make it the best receiver on the planet.

I've got a BCD325P2, and you're absolutely right . . . it has everything the R6 does and much more, including a much-easier-to-program operating system.

My only serious complaint about the BCD325P2 is how quickly it works its way through AA batteries.

I just get a little sentimental about Icom radios, and I would like to play with an R6-sized receiver with digital capabilities, even if it can't track trunked radio systems.

The 436 goes through batteries too so found a better way to listen longer. Don't know if this would work for your 325P2.

Something like that might help, but I need to do the math and determine whether or not the voltage will work.

In the meantime, I'm content to either take along some extra recharged batteries or use a radio that I know will last longer than the BCD325P2 does with its two AA batteries.

Thanks, bearcatrp!
