WS1040: im lost

i use radio refrence to get the moto type ii smartnet listings for lee county fl but when i upload tothe radio from whistlers programs it says it thinks its a splinter group normally used at the usa/mexican border?i have a ws1040?any help?

What programming software are you using? You need to use custom 800 MHz rebanded trunking tables for the system to work.

live in lee county fl (Ft.Myers) trying to program the 1040 ...Lee county pubic service Motorola type 2 smartnet....its says its all analog so i put in the tower sites and talkgroups from radioreference ...when i upload to scanner it says the whistler program has detected the frequencies are a splinter usually found by the usa/mexican border.....im lost im new ...any help would be awesome ...thanx

is it worth keeping this scanner or should i just send it back and get the new scanner thats out...i got 30 days...i dont mind work arounds

You can’t receive Lee County with a Whistler WS1040. Lee county uses a phase 2 system which the ws1040 can’t receive. You’ll need a scanner capable of receiving phase 2.

I’d return the scanner.

You may not want to even bother getting another scanner because much of Lee County is encrypted and can’t be heard with any scanner.

Scanning is not very much fun in much of Florida and isn’t really worth the cost of buying a scanner.

If the MODE column in the P25 Phase II system is listed as "D" the 1040/1065 can decode it. Its when the phase II is TDMA ("T") it can't

If this system Lee County Public Safety (P25) Trunking System, Fort Myers, Florida (radioreference.com) or this system Lee County P25-2 Trunking System, Fort Myers, Florida (radioreference.com) are being used, you can set the system type to P25 Auto and don't need to worry about trunking tables. I suggest that you look at the Florida forum. There is a thread now discussing Lee County.

With lots of encryption.

Unless I’m missing something the 1040 won’t work regardless of setting it to P25 auto and regardless of the “D” mode listing. The system is Phase 2.

i am using a uniden 396T on our 700 Mhz phase 2 and it receives the phase 1 stuff fine.

Charlotte uses a mix of Phase 1 on their system. It’s not an exclusively phase 2 system like Lee County.

I'm not sure how it can be exclusively a Phase 2 system if Phase 1 talk groups are listed. I've programmed a Phase 1 scanner for a system listed as Phase 2 but with Phase 1 talk groups. The software wouldn't let me download the system from the database, so I had to enter the information manually as a workaround. The scanner was able to monitor the Phase 1 talkgroups.

The system is *capable* of Phase II, but Phase I FDMA talkgroups are present, so it's running in Phase I mode with TDMA capability. It will still do Phase II TDMA groups if you add them, making it a mixed-mode system, but it won't run exclusively Phase II until you have no more FDMA groups.

The system type being Phase II really has nothing to do with the actual format of the system besides it has support for TDMA talkgroups, but it doesn't have to have any TDMA groups in order to be listed as Phase II.

I monitor the Lee County P25 System often. It’s a Harris phase 2 system. Where in the DB does it show a mix of phase 1? ( other than the D).

My 1040 won’t receive it. My SDS100 will. The display shows the slots and P2 designation.

Like most newbies the OP hasn’t replied anyway so who cares. But I’d bet a donut that his ws1040 is dead silent

I thank all of you for the info you've given me........i think the polish in my blood is too strong......plus ive been working crazy here around ft myers....havent had the time to sit down and get deep into it.....so far no go on p25 2 but i think i need to reset my scanner....i can get NOAA .......im trying to figure it out....do they not use the normal public safety list that has alot of good stuff in analog anymore?...thanks for putting up w a NEWBIE

i got the p-25 phase 2 to work....i had the control channels set to super track so it was only scanning them.....i think thats what i did....i messed w alot of the settings before i knew what i was doing....the scanner works fine it was me who screwed it up
