• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey tribe I’m In my first 7 months into amateur radio WSGZ372. & I just got my license..

What really turned me on to the whole community and culture. Well is the fact that one day cell phones Internet and every method of communication that modern day people use will be rendered useless at some point in time I believe that However, amateur ham radio will not as long as the human heart is beating and there’s a battery powered we will have communication. SOO

I’ve done a lot of research and I dedicate 2 to 3 hours every day just to focus on amateur radio.

My question is, how would I program an NAC Tone into a Baofeng 5RM MANUALLY?

Okay, from reading a few others posts, you want to know how to program a repeater tone. Press the green menu key, enter or scroll to #10. That is CTCSS recieve tone. 11 is DCS recieve code. 12 & 13 are for CTCSS and DCS transmit respectively.

OK, I may be. I may be slow slower than I thought when radio reference references input, would that be the frequency that I receive on or is that be the frequency that I transmit on

Cause I’m manually having the program my 5RM so in order to program the two frequencies together, I have to start with one frequency which one do I wanna start with ? the input or the output frequency ? which one do I receive on the input or output cause then when I go back to program the other frequency, that would be the one that I transmit on

You program in the repeater output into your receive channel. Transmit frequency is determined by offset, also in the menu functions.

I might suggest a few things
Read the manual from cover to cover and then read it again. Mark areas you don’t understand.
If possible program through a computer using the CHIPS program.
Contact someone locally who has used radios on gmrs and let them help you. It is always better to talk this thing out with someone who has experience and could help with the areas you marked as not understanding.
Don’t give up..you will learn it eventually..as they say it is not rocket science😉🙂
Good luck!

Do you mean CHIRP? I'm not familiar with anything called CHIPS programming.

I noticed that also and above I suggested he find someone locally who is in a local gmrs group if there is such a thing. Maybe he is just confusing termsđŸ„Ž.

May I suggest the OP look into a real amateur license if he really wants to continue learning in this hobby. While not needed it does help increase one’s basic radio/electronics knowledge without a whole lot of work for the Tech license.
