Spaceweather is reporting that a X2 class flare happened at 0156 this morning (8:56 pm EST on the 14th), with a coronal mass ejection heading our way in the next day or two. The flux level climbed to 114, the highest its been in years.

We had a M6.6 class flare last week, with an associated ejection. Propagation conditions will likely be very disturbed for a few days.

Welcome to Cycle 24

best regards..Mike

Yes! I tuned WWV in the other day and the flux level was 109. Can't remember the last time I heard a three digit number. Hope it keeps it up.

All good, Bands are opening. Listened to the US Coast Guard NMN Chesapeake VA this morning. First time I've heard that station coming into Perth Australia. Also the 27MHz band opened up and I was able to talk from Perth to Newcastle on my old CB first time in years. Looking forward to more.

Certainly a shock to me. I was having a listen on the Excalibur and noticed that there was a lot happening on 27MHz. So I turned on the old General Electric (A3-5825B) found a station that was booming in and called breaker.
I Bought this radio off a mate of mine for sentimental reasons, had one myself that was stolen when I was in my teens. Any way when I got it it it was stuffed so I stripped it down replaced a number of caps went through the tune up procedure as per manual. I was surprised when it actually scrubbed up and appeared to be working pretty well. The problem I had was that it's an older 18 Channel rig so I was pretty limited by what channels were available. It's taken until know to prove it works OK on air.
(Enough history)
After a few try's at calling the wife and daughter started giving me a hard time, however that all stopped when I got a "go ahead breaker". From then on I had a great QSO with Bob and John on the other side of the country.
It's been so long since the bands were open that you forget what it's like. I can really see why radio dies off as a hobby when we have solar min.
Any way, bring on the cycle!!
Good listening to all.

Looks like it is slowing back down again. The pictures are amazing from it. It is down to 109 after 125 yesterday.

All bands are HORRIBLE this morning! 20 meters seems to be the only one even worth trying.

Ten is extremely dead here. I can't even get the beacon that's 10 miles away, and that's on two dipoles. 15 meters is noisy, and no stations last time I checked. I didn't notice any better propagation on VHF and UHF yesterday either.
