Is anyone else looking at Aero channels out of Perth on L band? I noticed strong signals between 1545 and 1546, both 10500bps data and 8400bps voice channels. I was able to get a good signal just from a patch antenna pointed out to the west and decode the voice and data.

Cheers

Do you have any thoughts on what satellite you might have been pointing at?
Your comment might suggest you were seeing some data from their new I6 bird which is more over your way than our current station on the east coast which is looking at 143e.

Yes I think it might be from I6, signal quality has been very good when using the patch antenna, and that's pointing out the window. Getting up to 20db on 600bps channels and about 8db on 8400/10500bps when using Jaero.

Would you know if it's possible to get a breakdown of what's on which frequency on these satellites? Seems to be difficult to find, might just monitor and see what shows up where.

Your best place to go is the acars-vdl2 group at groups.io
There are a number there, including myself, who watch INMARSAT including one out your way.

Was reading a post from acars-vdl2 group at groups.io that the satellite I might be receiving could be Inmarsat-4 F2, which is located at 64ºE. This might explain the stronger signal I am getting in Perth. I will try and post some frequencies here and also acars-vdl2 group over the weekend.

Yes, the posts there clearly indicate a satellite now at 64 E. As you probably saw there, I am the person asking for certain data from the satellite that map the coverage. I process that by hand as no hobbyest software decodes that part. It took me several months to figure out what that data was and then to map it. since you are in Perth, I am curious if you have seen the Perth ground station (I assume so)>

I haven't been out to where the station is in Perth but I know the location is surrounded by bushland and might be hard to see any antennas/dishes from the road side. This is the map location for Google so you can get an idea where it is, I am about 20 to 30 min drive away. 31°48'16.0"S 115°52'57.0"E

I notice in the Satcom forum there is a thread about the latest satellite at 84E so I am wondering if that's the one I am receiving, I am off work tomorrow so might set the patch antenna up and see if there are any new channels.

I live in south Texas whats a good satellite to Rx I have a patch antenna already for this band........
The patch is an Okish starter antenna.
Point it at 98w and get going. If you find you really do want to listen to half conversations and the patch is just not holding the signal enough for voice, then you can update at that time.
The patch will work just fine for all the L-Band data channels.
