• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Setting up a few SAR radios for a volunteer organization they brought in some uhf model 3s and 2s donated to them for use on uhf stuff.

From what I'm aware of these were surplus from a large city couple hours away. Essentially nearly brand new hardly ever used from cache life.

The 5 were model 2s. The 3 were model 3s. One though has FPP.

In this one it says source cps and zero flash uogrades but I'm well aware that can be monkeyed with.

The radio has FPP and trunking. This is a BN at 21 firmware.

I thought these two combinations were impossible unless it was a AN at or below 9.x firmware.

Testing it out FPP does work no issues. Got ahold of a another entity and we tried their uhf trunked p25 system on it. Indeed it works fine.

How is this Frankenstein possible?

The flash of this whor3d radio is 5A1018-10178C-5

So somewhere between the life of being a cache radio and donated to a SAR entity someone's done some hocus pocus. It never has been in public Joe's hands or shouldn't have been.

The radio does have multi UCM pad and AES works fine as well.

Obviously this one is gonna be shelved for now.

Just odd as I thought the combination of FPP and Trunking was not a option or possible on BN radios without issues.

Yes it is indeed a model 3 BN. Hardware and software confirms it.

Was that feature option mix even possible I thought it wasn't?

What's the flash on the tag?
What I'm debating on doing. There is asset tag with priority entity covering most of back and the current one who slapped theirs over that one. Once I get approval I'm going to remove those best as I can to see as I wondered same.

It's possible in later firmware revisions, not sure exactly when it became possible but it works in the last 1-2 releases.

There's a tool we don't speak of openly that would allow any possible flashcode in that radio, no matter what the firmware and dsp revisions are, no matter if they're firmware compatible or not. It's been in the wild for a very long time.

You would not expect to find such radios owned by a public safety organization, but once you're acquiring radios on the used market, all bets are off. If they fully match their ID tags and flashcode records, that's actually kind of special at this point in time.

Removed the asset property tag and prior one under. The flashcode one is missing or scratched off and has below that a I've been flashed sticker that stuck under the original asset property tag.

Radio passes checks and inspections/tuning.

Advised the private Sar wring leader of situation. He said it's fine for use so he took it with the others.

Being a private entity they are doing Sar it's out of our end now. They came to us since we do our entities programming. Being uhf not a whole they themself get to use. They were issued county kng radios with a basic zone for fire stuff on vhf but thats outside our entity and agreement they got with them.
