My scanner is plugged into an ac outlet in the house and i hear the tv sound through the scanner speaker when the tv is on. any ideas what i can do to get rid of the interference.

Sounds like the connection to the TV is very poor and needs replacing. Have a look.

Make and model scanner and tv?

Do you have cable tv and cable tv box?

Is tv and cable tv box near scanner?

If so try putting some distance between scanner and cable tv box.

Sounds like it could be cable tv signal leakage.
