A friend is offering me his used, and slightly banged up Scanner for a 100 dollars even.
I dont know much about unidens so i need advice.
As far as i can tell theres nothing wrong with it,He just needs the money so his letting it go.
He never programmed it correctly so it scanned my local PD and fire Horribly ( i was trying to hand enter the freqs from my scanner, and i didnt fully understand its keys so i think i messed up a few numbers).
Thats other reason his letting it go he never used it.
So my main two questions are:
Is 100 dollars a good deal?
And i already have a psr 500. So what advantage if any does it have over that scanner?\
I LOVE MY PSR 500, and i love my hundred dollar bill. So its it not worth it please let know.

100$ is a steal on a 396t if its not banged up too bad, they still sell for 4-500 on ebay and similar sites...if you dont want to buy it please send me a PM, and I will :)

I have a 396T,but not a PSR500 so no help on that point.

Good price!

4 things I can think to check for a "slightly banged up" version.

1. antenna jack
2. data port jack
3. power port jack
4. charging function

The 1st three are a weak point for a handled unit. From time to time you will hear of a unit not charging the batteries. Not that handling has anything to do with it, but just something to check.

Sorry Ne1C4Nsc4n thats a friends price, and a "i need to make rent Fast price."
Thats why its not on ebay, or he didnt have me put it up on this site. he needs the cash yesterday.
I did think of just re selling it for what its worth (i really need a new phone bad so that would help me fund it), but its kinda of a pawn situation, i think when he gets the funds up, he may ask for it back. Again why its a friends price and not up for the public.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll take another good look at the scanner and take some time to read up more up and take more time program it by hand. IF i can talk him into parting with it threw this forum and its in good shape ill throw it up. However the price may change.
PS, its just the scanner, no data cable, ONE battery pack, and an unknown to me antenna, i dont think its the stock rubber duck its more of a "whip style". No box, no manual .

I'll be your friend if you wanna sell me it :D kidding :) and I understand all to well, thats how I came to own my first scanner, similar situation with a friend actually, of course it was only a 246t, so not really the same comparison. I hope things work out for your friend.

If you can buy a programming cable you should be all set...the 396's are super easy to configure on a computer, and that should net you better results then doing it by hand.
