Newbie question: Is it possible to edit a post after it was submitted? Either the original text of the post or an attached document? Let’s say I included an attachment with a post. The attachment was valid as of the time I posted it but now I’ve updated the document to include additional information. Is there any way to replace the original attachment in the post with the updated version or do I need to create a new post? It would be a lot cleaner to simply replace the original document with the new version.

Yes you can edit a post for up to 30 minutes after the original posting time. Press the three dots and it'll say edit. I haven't been able to remove an attachment after it's been posted.

Let me edit that to say you can remove the entire post and say error or delete and then repost the attachment you want but I don't think you can leave an edited post up but just take away the attachment. I'll have to try that but I don't think I've been able to do it.

This post has been edited and it should say edited down in the lower right.

Thanks trentbob, I was afraid that was the case. I’ve made a lot of progress decoding the Uniden SDS200 wav file format since my original post. I don’t want to bore everyone by posting the same thing over and over again. I was hoping I could just update the original post.

Yes understood, I have not been able to add an attachment after the post has been posted. I just edit text. Let me try something here, I'm just going by experience but maybe I'll test that right now.

Okay I actually did write a post with an attachment and immediately hit edit and was able to remove the attachment and add another attachment. I then deleted that attachment and deleted the text of the post and wrote delete. I don't know if there's a time limit shorter than the 30 minutes that you're able to do that. I've had post that I edited 25 minutes later and I wasn't given the option to remove the attachment or add one. There might be a brief time that you're able to do it. I'm going to add an attachment to this one and wait about 15 minutes and then see if I can swap out the attachment.PSX_20221009_135954.jpg

@JM707, so the answer to your original question is yes you can swap out an attachment within the 30 minutes. You can also change and edit your text.

I did it after 15 minutes.

It always struck me that 30 minutes was a very short period of time to edit a post. It does seem to add to the number of superfluous replies to ones own posts if new information comes to light. Not my forum though.

The problem with allowing a long grace period for editing is that anyone who has already read the post would likely miss any edits. That tends to happen already. There's also the issue of a certain class of members who might habitually edit their posts after the fact for reasons that aren't well-intentioned. :cautious:

Anyway, this has been hashed out before: Edit function

The only way I've known to be able to edit a post is in the lower left hand corner there are three dots, you tap on that and tap edit. That will disappear after 30 minutes. The only way I've ever done it... Bob. :)
