Would it be possible to extend the amount of time that the edit function is available on a new post? In the old forum, it was available for an hour or two, now it seems like just a few minutes. Between that, my fat fingers on this tiny keyboard, and my tablet's "autowrong" feature, it's almost impossible to post something without a bunch of typos.

It's perfectly fine as-is. If you don't catch your typo within a few minutes, write a new post if it's that important.

The trouble with long edit times is that some members like to go back and make drastic changes to their original posts after people have already read them. So unless the edit history feature is also turned on, so that all members can see the changes made by edits, it's better to leave it relatively short.

You have 30 minutes to edit your post which seems like a reasonable time to me to catch autocorrect errors.

The old forum gave you two hours.

I'm finding that 30 minutes is not sufficient. For example, I may post while at lunch waiting on my order, and by the time I'm back at my desk and have an opportunity to actually proof read my post, it's too late to fix it.

Just putting it out there that the change is significantly shorter and has been noticed as a problem.

Growing up, I've always been told to think before I speak. I was also told to proofread before I publish! Seeing as the forums have no rule against double posting(I checked before writing this), you can address your typos in a second post, if not caught in the first 30 minutes. I also don't like the short edit time, but as a former administrator of a few other forums, I've seen what GTR8000 said plenty of times. Those folks that DO change a large portion of their post can be a real headache!

If it's just typos you're concerned about, I say don't be. Everyone is understandable, and no one is perfect. Unless your typo was WAYYYYYYY off from the word you meant, everyone probably knows what you're trying to say!

I agree with both arguments but feel extending edit time to one hour would be helpful. Any longer than that and I think the edit function would be used to add to the discussion rather than create a new post. The other thing I'd like to see is a way to delete posts or request a post be deleted for cause. There have been a couple of times I've posted incorrect information by accident and would like to remove it.

But, that's just my opinion.

To me, it doesn't make sense that we can't edit our own posts after 30 minutes. I don't understand the logic. Is there a cost for the extra time? If not, it seems like an arbitrary timeframe.

But...not my "house"...

Part of the problem I experience is that I frequently use an Android tablet that has a very aggressive spell checker that I can't disable. It will force a word change. I can go back and fix it, but I don't always catch it the first time. It also doesn't always correct something to a real word.

Yes, I understand that some people make significant changes to their posts, given enough time. That doesn't bother me much, unless the altered post was quoted by someone else.

I've had no difficulty using the report feature to request that a post be removed, but in my case, it was a completely botched duplicate post and not simply bad information.

In that case, I've quoted my own post and corrected it.

I attempted that on a post of mine and it still has not been deleted, maybe it was bad timing being near the holidays.

Sorry guys but I'm not changing the edit time. 30 minutes is enough to correct mistakes.

As far as users deleting posts, that will never happen. Too much potential for abuse.

If you really want your post deleted, report it. In most cases, we find there's no real reason to delete it. If you make a mistake correct it in a follow-up post.

I'm out.

Thanks for listening to use though @MikeWazowski, I total understand your reasoning.

The auto-correct function is a feature of the keyboard on an Android device. If you are using the default keyboard and it doesn't allow you to disable auto-correct, then install a new keyboard. There are a number of choices available in the Google Play store, including the Gboard keyboard (Google's), or SwiftKey. I've been using SwiftKey for years, and it easily allows you to disable auto-correct.
