I was wondering if there is any software that can be used / configured to record from a USB port, I don't have a 1/8-1/8 cable right now so was wondering if I plugged the programming cable stereo jack to headphone on the scanner (pro-95) then plugged the other end into a USB port. I'm dling some demo audio recording software now to see if any have options to record from a USB device. Just wondering if anyone else has ever tried this or not.

i'll be a nice guy and answer this question. Unfortunately, NO. You risk blowing the I/O board on your computer as well as the line or audio output of the scanner. There are many aftermarket converter boxes that allow you to do like so. Check with your local best buy, or CompUSA.
Either way you slice the pie, you need a aucio to digital converter to complete the project.

That is a nice feature that was added to the newest ICOM computer controlled wide-band receivers. Both the PCR/R-1500, and PCR/R-2500 series are designed to transfer their audio via the same USB cable that is used to program/control them!

Hopefully we'll see that added to regular scanner radios in the near future.

I'll be getting the cable tomorrow from rs, I was just trying to make something work tonight without making my own cable.

Go to the shack and buy a 1/8 on each end cable. Plug one in your scanner, plug the other in the microphone jack on your computer.

I used this cable to record audio from my scanner to a digital voice recorder.

I think you missed "I don't have a 1/8-1/8 cable right now" in the OP.
