I live in Noble co. Indiana and have came to the conclusion that the BCT15 would be a good scanner for my son. What do you think? Is there a better scanner for my area? I also considered the Pro-2055 or Pro-433.

My son has cerebral palsy and is fascinated with radios of any kind but loves to listed to scanner traffic. I would be doing all of the programming so I was hoping for something easy to program. I have put off buying him one for a long time due to the posts I would read here as a lurker on help with programming.

Thanks in advance

Well the BCT15 would be an excellent scanner but the BCD996T would be even better. With the BCD996T you could get the Indiana Project Hoosier SAFE-T System.

I would go with BCD396T handheld myself since case power goes out you can put batteries in them. Looks like your county is vhf system. I have the pro2055 *not digital* works good for me for my area. I have alot of radios case something happens. I'm not sure how long before your county might go to digital. Hope you find the right one for him I've been listening to scanners since like 1991. So many systems like 800 900 and vhf/uhf trunking. The 396 or 996 or 330 has a Fire Tone Out option I like that one becuase I can have them on standby instead hearing all tones go off at night. You have to find somoene knows Tone A and B it acts like a fire pager.. Or go like Dubbin stated above any of those radios will work good. I hear all kinds of stuff in my county or city area sometimes I even pick up far as 100-500 miles away....

BCT15 if you want a 'good' radio that will pick up analog systems all day long, 996 or 396 if you want digital capability. I've got a 396 and am buying a bct15 for Christmas for myself, for a backup/car radio.

Talking about back up radio I might pick up another 396 or 996. Of course that will be sometime in March of 07.

Since I am not a scanner pro I was hoping to stay around or under the 200.00 area. I have browsed through the directions on the BCT 15 and I have to admit it is baffling.

Its not that hard. Once you get the radio in front of you and start playing with it then it will all come to you and your son.
