Are the VHF High-Band Mobile Extenders still used with the new Project Hoosier SAFE-T system?

These were on 155.445 Mhz during the good old 42.4200 days.

Are they using 800Mhz portables, or some other system?

In Southern Indiana, Sellersburg post is still using them, but some also have SAFE-T radios in their cars and some portables.

DNR still on High Band, with SAFE-T portables.

I hear them every now and then here in Terre Haute, usually when a Trooper is in the northwestern part of Vigo County. 800mhz Dead zone up there

Once low band is phased out, and that is supposed to be very soon, the mobile radio extenders will be history! Due to cost considerations, I doubt you will ever see mobile radio extenders on SAFE-T.

Where did you read that low band would be phased out?

The info been around for a long time, that was pretty much the plan from the begining when SAFE-T was able to handle the traffic full time..All the new Trooper/Motor Carrier cars do not even have Low Band radios installed.

It has been phased out atleast in the south west.

Had a trooper in store the other day he just got the NEW white Crown IC car.

He said all the white casr NO LONGER have low band he didnt even have ILEEN ONLY 800 radio now and a portable.

So to me that measn it has been phased out down here.

Very interesting! I wonder what was up with those pics I saw of the black ISP cars with the blue stripes?

I didn't realize that ILEEN (155.475) was removed too. They must have a lot of faith in the 800 MHz system. Should it go down, they are SOL!

Thanks for the update!

That makes sense.... ISP had ILEEN access through their VHF mobile extender hand-held's/convert-a-com's..... ILEEN was one of the freq's programmed (or crystaled in the case of the old MT500's) in the portables, so when plugged into the car convert-a-com's...they could get pretty good range on ILEEN. Back when I was in school at Vincennes...I used to hear the District 35 units talking to Knox county on ILEEN all the time. Of course, that before they all went 800 MHz..... So no more mobile extenders means no more VHF mobile extender portable radios and convert-a-com's, and no more ILEEN access.

Some of the counties will install a county radio in the trooper’s car, or give the troopers a county portable radio, to give the troopers access to the counties they patrol.
