JEFFERSON COUNTY - Police apprehended a suspect after searching for him for much of the day on Monday, causing schools to go into lockdown.
Police search for man wanted for crimes in Las Vegas
A traffic stop at 9:30 a.m. near eastbound I-70 and the El Rancho exit turned into a manhunt after the driver fled on foot, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Troopers say a stolen vehicle from Las Vegas, Nevada was stopped just after morning rush hour in the El Rancho area.
The suspect, who is described by authorities as 6 feet tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and a dark hat, was apprehended just before 5 p.m. on Monday at Bergen Parkway in Evergreen.
The suspect is wanted in connection with crimes in Las Vegas, which include a home invasion, state patrol says.
Following the report of the manhunt, several schools went into immediate lockdown, including Bergen Valley Elementary, Bergen Meadow Elementary and Evergreen Middle School, according to Jefferson County Public Schools officials.
Officials say students were released at their regular dismissal time, but students were only being released to parents or adults the child recognizes.
