My buddy at /\/\ told me he's responsible for starting the roll-out of a P25 system in the city that will be built around the new IP7X infrastructure (the consoles, controlers, & repeaters will be linked via IP networking instead of lease-lines or microwave).
He's not sure what the PD admin has come up with about encryption on their TGID's, but he pretty darn sure that the FD will remain in the clear...

JCFD is supposed to be on the system, and I'll ask him about a timeline when I talk to him this week.
News Update: JCFD will be on the new system. Roll-out is planned for Q3-Q4 2007.
Also - more current news than that - Bayonne will deploy a UHF-T APCO-25 IP-infrastructure system by end of Q2 2007...

Spoke to one of the fire directors today it's going to be a trunked system and it's do on the air in 12 to 18 months.
