Good article. I look forward to more info as they move into re-building mode and have the opportunity to do after-action evaluations. It sounds like they had the foundational items in place, especially training, and caught a break that the system didn't take a hit.

It would be nice if Joplin PD didn't encrypt their transmissions during a tornado... I can understand encryption on sensitive things going on, but not during a tornado when citizens that own a scanner wouldn't know what is going on. This is just my opinion!! Oh and the officer that was struck by lightning, I knew his grandpa, great family!!! We all should definitely keep them in our prayers.

NASCAR Driver Jamie McMurray was born and raised in Joplin. He paid a visit back to his hometown and his boyhood home last week before the race at the Kansas Speedway. SPEED Channel and NASCAR Race Day did a great story about his trip.
