I LOVE this thing and only took me about a hour to figure the thing out. I do have a question about the MSWIN system though. Putting in the frequencies for Jackson and Raymond Ms (me living in Clinton), will I still be able to hear agencies on those frequencies from around the coast? This would be a great tool to have during hurricane evacs on the coast contraflow ect. I HOPE im making sense as of writing this my brain is asleep Thanks in advance for the help!

The simple answer to your question is yes. But it won't be a regular occurrence, it will be rare in fact.

Occasionally you may hear radio traffic from a coastal unit or agency, but it will be broadcast over the Jackson area freqs. programmed in your scanner. But, typically the traffic you hear on your scanner will originate within a 40-50 mile radius of Jackson metro just because of nature and design of MSWIN.

You'll only hear traffic from channels with radios affiliated on the tower(s) you're listening to.

Being in Clinton you should add the Lake Cavalier site as well. We need more ears on that one IDing new talkgroups in Madison County.

Depending on atmospheric conditions and type of antenna you are using you may be able to copy some of the more distant towers at least occasionally. Over the 3 already mentioned Florence would be your 4th closest tower at around 21 miles. Probably not going to get that one on a rubber duck antenna, but if you have a good outdoor antenna you might have some luck with it.

Best thing to do is first create a TSYS Object with all known control channels and assign it a unique quick key. At the moment there are less than 30 so they will all fit in one TSYS. Set the Multi Site mode to STAT, then check "Scan all control channels..." etc. Creating this TSYS object will also allow you to quickly and easily scroll through each CC in analyze mode to determine which CC's you get most reliably.

After determining which sites are most reliable for you, then create additional TSYS object(s) for just those sites. This will be your main "home sites". Then if you head out somewhere you can easily activate the above mentioned TSYS object to catch sites you don't normally hear at home too.

Also don't forget to create TG and PC wildcard objects for any TSYS you create too. There are plenty of yet unnamed TG's out there that are not in the RR DB. I've never caught any PC calls as of yet, but that doesn't mean somebody may not use them eventually though.
