I tried to search the forum but can't find anything recent.
Is KCK fire encrypted or should I be able to pick it up?
I put the frequencies in my scanner but I'm not picking anything up. Using a handheld in Leavenworth County.
Thanks

KCK Fire is on the MARRS trunked system and they are not encrypted. You may be too far away in LVCO if you're using just a handheld.

I don't have much luck with KCK, or JOCO. I am in LV. I can get Platte Co. really good as their tower is in LV.
What radio do you have?

I'm using an old Radio Shack Pro 96. The only thing I can pick up is Leavenworth fire dispatch on 154.38500.
I'm going to have to break down and buy a new Uniden one of these days.

Doesn't the Pro-96 do P25? There are other radios other than Uniden that would pick up KSICS or Marrs. I have a BlueTail Tech P25RX that is way cheaper than most of the other brands and does an incredible job.
You are only hearing medical calls which can involve some kind of event with PD or Sheriff.

I am going to answer my own question and say yes it does. Try programming the control channel in.
Press PGM + Func to select channel bank, use arrow keys.
Press TRUNK
Press MODE until Motorola shows
Press PGM to enter frequency which is 851.850
press ENTER
It should save, don't own that scannner , not sure. There is only one control channel.
Press SCAN, should receive traffic.
There is more to getting talk groups entered but you really need to connect to a PC.
It's worth a try...PM me if you want help

Do you use an indoor antenna or outdoor antenna? If you're using the stock rubber duck antenna indoors, then I still maintain that you're too far away to hear KCK anything with that antenna indoors.

Your closest tower is in Platte Co, that's why you can hear them so easily. KCK radios would not affiliate with that tower because its too far away for them to do so, so there isn't any KCK radio traffic coming from that tower.

I gave in and bought myself a SDS100. I'm getting KCK fire now and it was even picking up Johnson County Community College.
The BlueTails were sold out. I'm also picking KHP with no problem. I'll play with the Pro 96 some still.
There is a little learning curve with the SDS100 but it's working great.
Thanks

If the Pro-96 does not receive the MARRS P25 system, adjusting VR4 inside the scanner may help. It is labelled on the circuit board. Do you have programming software and a cable for your Pro-96? I use Butel ARC96 software. Did you download and install the Uniden Sentinel software for your SDS100? BCDx36HPSentinel < UnidenMan4 < TWiki You will need Sentinel to update the database and firmware and create favorites lists. Which systems and agencies would you like to monitor with your SDS100?

I've the SDS100 set up ok using Sentinel. I'll play with the Pro96 and see if I can get the MARRS system working.
Thanks

In Bonner Springs you should be able to hear KCK, JOCO, KCMO, Platte and maybe Clay on MARRS. You could also hear KSICS in Leavenworth, JOCO and Douglas Co. BCD436HP suffers simulcast issues on MARRS. You will miss radio traffic. Some places it works good others not so much. Best upgrade for those scanners is a 800mhz antenna.
