• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

As Kent County, MI has recently gone to the MPSCS (P25)system for fire dispatch I have a question for the G5 pagers. Currently our pagers are set up to alert only for a specific fire department on knob position 1 and after being dispatched we have to switch to knob position 2 to hear any further traffic on Kent Co Fire North. I find it hard to believe that these can't be set up like the Minitor pagers where it stays open on Fire North after being toned out. I am playing with the subgroups and revert options but not having much luck. Would an "expert" care to look at my file and advise? I would be happy to send it by email.

Do you actually have tones or just the Beeping alert to indicate it is your call? Oceana/Mason county uses 800 paging and they still have dispatch on the same knob position. With the newest firmware (December 2020 I believe) you have have the ability to have priority and non priority talkgroups. There have been instances where the pager alerts, starts talking and then the audio cuts out as well as stops recording. Maybe that's why they are setup the way they are currently, so that you don't miss any audio when the pager is alerted.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to get quick call and subgroups working, i've tried to figure it out myself but haven't had luck yet.

just the beeping alert. because its digital you don't hear the tones anymore. I just want the dang thing to stay open on my fire channel when we get alerted. Seems so simple but apparently not

You can, just put 41FDN in the non priority section or put it below your departments paging talkgroup in the list. You could potentially have that audio loss though, it's not consistent but it does happen. In fact i'll set mine up that way and see if that audio issue happens on the Kent simulcast.

Tones are possible still by using quick call but I believe there is extra programming to do on the dispatch side as well? I'm not knowledgeable in using it.

yea if I put 41FDN then its just another open channel like knob #2. I want it silent until toned and then remain open on 41FDN.
