does anyone know of i can program conventional channels on kenwood 480 if it already has a ltr system in it and is password protected?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Yes, you can program both LTR and Conventional channels into the radio. The password protection should be for "read" only in that particular model, you can write a new program to it without the password. If you do write a new program, just remember that the current program in the radio will be gone.

I have a tk-480 im having problems the talk groups into it I finally figured out how to program the frequencies into it. Is there a conversion chart that can tell what the kenwood version of motorola tg are? Like a tg on mot is (18576) how would i enter that into the kenwood being that it only take 3 digits???
There is no conversion. The group is the last three digits of the ID that scanners show you. So if you have 0-12-185, the group you would program is 185.
I may be wrong, but I think he is wanting to convert a Motorola (SmartNet) ID to a "Kenwood" LTR.
