I purchased this HAM radio and having a hard time programming it. I downloaded the drivers and software on 2 different computers and it will NOT link up with radio but I know it works because at the store, the guy showed me how the software works and he did it. I need to program in channels. The owners manual does not help at all and this is my first HAM radio and really lost on this stuff. Please help.

I have to assume that the problem is with the cable's connection to the computer, serial port or USB. Which brings up the drivers used by that software and cable for that port. I don't remember exactly, but the software allows you to specify the port for use. Try changing that port, several times. Also unplugging then reconnecting the cable, that's worked for me (and others).
Don't ask me why that would work, I don't 'do' software so don't understand how it all works. I do know that it has for me.
Good luck.

Take a small philips head svrewdriver and remove the screw holding the plastic cover over the micophone port. Remove the plastic cover. Then install the cable, and press it until it clicks in. Some of them are VERY tight the first few times.

Once you are done programming, reinstall the plastic dust cover and screw. After using the programming cable once or twice you will not have to remove the cover anymore. the combination of the cover being in the way, and the tight plugs make it very difficult to get the programming cable plugged in sometimes.

I guess that issue hasn't changed, my UVD1P was a pain, software kept saying no communication or radio not connected. Had to push the programming cable in with a lot more force than it should take

I'm a new ham as well. I still can't figure out all of the functions that make my radio work. All I've been doing is listening to truckers the last few days.

I was able to finally fix that error about the programming software says unable to connect. I was using vista for you reference, but it is a port issue, go into your device manager through the control panel after you follow the trouble shooting guide and when you get to the part where it says to go into oh I can't think of the name of the port connection, but you'll probably know what I'm talking about. Just right click that icon and say update driver. It will update the driver and the communication error will be fixed. As far as programming it and figuring out the protocols frequencies etc. I'm at a loss. I need someone to hold my hand and walk me through that one. But hopefully the little info I gave helps you.
