Yes I said Kitchen Shack. :D
Besides spending time in my office (scanner shack) the other place I spend most of my time is the kitchen. I decided to take one of my BCT15’s and mount it under the cabinet. I have it being feed by Quad RG6 to a RS 20-176 in the attic. I also mounted my Uniden ESP 20 behind it because it has a cleaner sound than the 15’s speaker. Plus I have it at an angle so the audio is directed towards the open. When I’m not scanning, I will have it tuned to a FM station. If there is action going on I can monitor from the kitchen while cooking dinner. I get a lot of use out of it in the morning before work. You be surprised how many accidents happen on our major highways in the morning. This way I can plan an alternate route. I wanted to keep it clean and off the counter.

Hate when that happens. The antenna is in the attic. I routed the cable through the wall and up to the attic. Just like if you were adding TV cable to a room.

looks great. i monitor from the kitchen as well - makes doing dishes (etc.) much more "fun", although I use a handheld.

The only thing that could make your setup cleaner is hiding the AC plug.

Must not be married! :D

Not anymore, :D

Besides, today’s kitchens have TV's, cable boxes, computers, radios, etc. I have a huge kitchen with two islands so I setup one small corner for the TV and radio. You really don't notice it when you first walk in. Just because it's a scanner people are like why? But if I installed an under-cabinet FM radio or TV or some other electronic device, then it’s cool. Sure I could have just use a handheld but the audio and range is not the same as a true base install with external antenna. Again, I kept the install clean. My coffee maker, toaster and microwave have more wires exposed. In the photo you hardley see the scanner.

Ya really. If I did that me and my "kitchen shack" would become my "garage shack", along with my bed.
You could dub it "the shack-n-rack out back":D wise871 you did a proper install-very nice. Your kitchen is humungous, and absorbs the radio into the mix very well..who could really object to it? How's your reception from that radio?

Due to the size of the kitchen is one of the reasons I decided to mount a radio in there. You don't even notice it and you don't even see the wires except for the AC plug. Since I spend as much time in the kitchen, I figure why not. At least I don't have it sitting on the counter top with an antenna sticking up. With the Attic antenna installed it pulls in all the signals like my main shack. Also it does a great job on the FM stations I like to listen too.

Aaand when you're tired of listening to whatever it is you like to listen to, you can listen to some FM (broadcast) radio on it as well! A little light rock maybe, or some 80s, maybe a baseball game... I like it a lot!

My husband (Maplebear) is right - I LOVE this! Great idea! I use to keep a scanner in the kitchen. Didn't work out. Kitchen too small, cooking kept getting in the way of the scanner. My husband moves the speaker plugged into one of mine onto the dinning room table so I can hear it. Great being married to someone who loves scanner listening as much as I do.

Ha! This post is killing me! Here I am thinking "A scanner in the Kitchen, why didn't I think of that". Because I would be on the same page with most of you guys and sleeping in the garage with my scanners!

Thats neat ! Who woulda thought the scanner would be the next latest and greatest kitchen appliance. It won't be long (speaking from experience) before frustration sets in: great action on the radio and you wanna hit hold or pause but you can't, cuz your hands are covered with recipe ingredients and by the time you wash and dry 'em it's too late.

I often do this with my handheld. So no matter what room I'm in, it's "the shack"...kitchen shack, bedroom shack, laundry room shack, bathroom shack....oooopps, too much info there !!! lol lol

I figure if it's done clean and tasteful, why not. It wasn't long ago where a TV was unheard of in the kitchen. Thanks for the comments.

Funny thing is, most people that come over don't even notice it and if they do they think it's a satellite or FM radio.
